DRIVING LICENCE WARNING. DEADLINE

Dear Readers,

We have been receiving may enquiries from clients concerned about the need to exchange their driving licences. As the Brexit deadline of the 29th March approaches rapidly Drivers from the UK living in Spain should swap their licence for a local one as soon as possible in case there is a no-deal Brexit.

The useful guidance issued by the UK Government – (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/prepare-to-drive-in-the-eu-after-brexit/requirements-for-all-uk-citizens-driving-abroad-from-29-march-2019 ), – informs Britons living in the EU that from 29 March, (when the UK is set to leave the union), that «in the event that there is no EU exit deal, you may have to pass a driving test in the EU country you live in to be able to carry on driving there».

We agree with the guidance that time is of the essence and you should consider exchanging your UK driving licence for Spanish one as soon as possible, because the traffic office in Alicante and Murcia are overloaded with applications and it is strongly advisable to book the appointment’s date in advance in order to avoid any delays.

Otherwise, as wisely warned by the guidance, the increased demand may lead to longer processing times and delays to exchanging.

Remember that before the indicated deadline, you can exchange the licence although you might not be a formal Spanish resident for the moment.

Subsequently, should you be interested in discussing in more detail about your particular situation, please kindly contact us by visiting our website www.bestsolicitorsinspain.com and we’ll be delighted to give you further information and advice.

Thank you very much for your attention, and we look forward to helping you.

With kindest of regards
